How the calculator works
It works backwards from what you want to take home. Then it adds what you need to cover so you actually earn that much:
- Unpaid time. Travel, quotes and messages take up hours you don't charge for. Your paid hours have to cover them.
- Tax and National Insurance. As a self-employed cleaner, nobody takes tax off for you, so it has to come out of your prices.
- Running costs. Fuel, products, insurance and equipment, spread across the hours you work.
That gives the lowest hourly rate that pays you properly. Then it times each clean from your minutes per room, the same method the Gwithva app uses to price bookings, and multiplies by your rate.
Pricing deep cleans and end of tenancy cleans
Bigger cleans take much longer than a regular clean of the same home. The calculator uses a multiplier for each type: a deep clean at 2× takes twice as long as a regular clean. Change the multipliers to match how you really work. If your end of tenancy cleans always run long, raise the multiplier rather than squeezing the hours.
Pricing extras per item
Ovens, carpets, windows and upholstery are easiest to price per item, so customers see exactly what they're paying for. The calculator prices each one from the minutes it takes plus the products you use. You can type your own price instead.
